Working From Home
We all know the feeling. You have a zoom call coming up, it may be for a work meeting or even a job interview and you do not have a suitable space within the house for you to look like a professional! Has there ever been a more important time to ensure you have a suitably decorated home office than the current never-ending season of lockdown?
Do not fear! Our team has been hard at work putting together some of our products that are guaranteed to spruce up and elevate your home office and help at least give the impression of professionalism through the webcam. Whether you are considering a modern and contemporary home office, a traditional home office, or even a bohemian home office, our Home Office Furniture and Decor Style Guide is sure to have something for you. So look no further for some great products and office decor ideas for your home office in the era of lockdown.
How To Decorate The Home Office
Part 1 - Stylish Seating
When considering the chair, you need to find a balance between comfort and style. You do not want to be slouching or fidgeting in discomfort simply because the chair is not practical or ergonomically comfortable. At the same time, you do not want a homogenous office which does not display any sense of character or individualism. Below are some of our ideas to help with this balance.
We love these adjustable velvet office chairs from Gallery. Comfort and style and even the ability to spin around if the occasion requires you to swivel! We think this would look fabulous in a modern home office space. The Murray Swivel Chair is also available in Pink, Green, Black, and Grey.
If you are looking for practicality, then this office chair from Lenora is sure to tick your boxes. Made from mesh in a contemporary office style, this chair brings a pop of colour with four shades to choose from and provides optimal levels of comfort with its ergonomic design. This chair also features the all-important swivel and adjustable features.
Grey brushed velvet is more your style? Shankar has the chair just for you. This office chair made from luxurious grey brushed velvet and enhanced with attractive stud detail edging and a tufted button back is sure to be smooth to the touch and easy on the eye.
Part 2 – Desirable Desks
Those of us chained to our computers may find we spend a great deal of time at the desk, so this space should (dare I say it) be a place where we actually enjoy the décor as this can help improve our productivity. Consideration must also be taken for the size of the space that you are working with when choosing your desk.
An item from the Cheriton Collection from D.I. Designs is always a great choice and that is very much true for the Cheriton Desk. Available in a variety of colours and sizes this desk is both classic and tasteful and will certainly help you to present yourself in a professional manner.
Want to show even more character and panache? Ok, here is the fabulous Leather Trim Canvas Desk from Vega Collective. Boujie and we love it. The drawers are adorned with leather handles and brass coloured studs and a wide slim drawer in the centre that we think would be great for storing stationary – or more excitingly snacks.
If you’re looking for a more practical desk with a focus on ergonomics, then we recommend considering the Prima Desk from FTG. Complete with adjustable legs that are ideal for the home office and make the desk very versatile.
Modern, elegant, sophisticated & sleek are all words that come to mind when describing the Federico Desk from Gillmore Space. Our favourite variation is the Black stained Oak with Brass Frame and this desk can be paired fabulously with the Federico High Bookcase with Glass Shelves also from Gillmore Space.
Part 3 – Bold Bookcases
We would argue this is the most undervalued part of the home office décor. In the era of lockdown nothing is highlighted quite like the bookcase behind the red-faced politician as the news anchor grills him. Forget needing to go to the hassle of creating a zoom meeting background to show off your personal style when you can look even more studious with one of our magnificent bookcases.
The Halifax Bookcase from NovaSolo suits any interior style. Four generous height shelves provide room to store books or curious trinkets to keep your webcam audience in awe of your taste. We also like the idea of having two of these on either side against the office wall behind your chair, framing the desk and yourself nicely.
This one is a bit off the wall… literally. But who wouldn’t want a polar bear style bookshelf! Presenting the Mobilier De Compagnie Bear Bookcase from ibride. Magnificent, regal, King of the Arctic (office) – this choice of bookcase really is an artistic statement and sure to be the focal point of any room.
Your style is more classical. Perhaps you want an office that would look more appropriate for an 18th century Duke from the Netflix show Bridgerton? We cannot blame you with this gorgeous white cedar wood bookcase complete with ladder from French Maison.
Surely, there is nothing more British than a red telephone box? Want everyone on the Zoom call to know you love this quirky patriotic style – then look no further than the iconic Vintage Telephone Bookcase by Ancient Mariner.
Part 4 – Luminous Lighting
Lighting has a huge effect on the mood of the room, especially if you are struggling for natural light! Here are a few choices to hopefully brighten up your home office space.
If you are going for a more industrial edge in your design, then the Tripod Spotlight from Libra Interiors should be at the top of your list! An incredibly cool floor lamp reminiscent of the stage lighting used in old Hollywood movies. The lamp can also double as an interrogation tool should you ever need an incredibly bright light with an adjustable aim (joking obviously).
Going for a less industrial feel? Want a bit more of a pop of colour? Then check out the Macy Spiral Floor Lamp with Drum Shade from Vega Collective. Ideal for luxe style interiors, this gorgeous floor lamp combines aluminum, iron and steel in bold spirals of black and gold.
Not interested in floor lamps? Instead consider a table lamp to adorn your desk. We love this Industrial Metal Desk Lamp with Smoked Glass from Hill Interiors, in trend and sure to be an eye catcher with its smoked glass effect.
Go for gold with the Albany Table Lamp from Gallery! This desk lamp has an almost futuristic feel with its sharp lines, but this is contrasted by the soft glow of light that the dome shade helps to emit.
